The Trust received the ‘2011 Emergency Services Ambulance Innovation Award’, which recognised the development of the specialist Bariatric ambulance vehicle, capable of lifting a patient weighing up to 50 stones to ensure dignity, care and treatment. The winning Bariatric vehicle was proudly manufactured for West Midlands Ambulance Service by O&H Vehicle Conversions, who have been successfully working alongside the Trust on designing and developing Bariatric ambulances, since 2009. West Midlands Ambulance Service, which covers the whole of the West Midlands and surrounding Shire Counties, fought off tough competition in the category to come out on top.
